Hi — I am positive for the HLA B27 gene. I am 57 years old. In 2018 and then again in June 2023 I had episodes of widespread body pain that lasted 8 weeks each time. I had a burning pain up and down my spine. I also had arthritic pain in the thumb joints in the base of my thumbs and pain on my front hip bones. I also had tendon pain in my shoulders.
I have also had 2 episodes of plantar fasciitis in the past 2 years. I currently have stubborn plantar fasciitis and am using Volteran gel… read more

I love swimming but is it safe to do when I suffer with spondylitis, osteoarthritis and bulging discs in spine I don’t want to make my conditions worse, any advice please.
I've been trying to go swimming at the YMCA once a week in the warm pool. I'm pretty sore the next day from over doing it. It's easy to do too much and not know it until later. If you start swimming… read more
@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. What kind of problems?
Hello I joined this site not quite knowing what condition I have. After numerous X-rays MRI etc the best answer I get is Degenerative disc and a mild curvature of the spine mostly in the thoracic and lumbar area
I experience what I can best describe as intense back muscle tightness middle thoracic that radiates down in lumbar. I have had and still have terrible posture which has caused most of my issues
While I am not seeking a diagnosis I am looking to see if so am on the right page.

I can't tell if this an older post, but have your docs check for HLA -b27.
Most of my daily pain is in my SI joints, therefore I am going to see a pain management specialist and discuss having a SI joint ablation. I have had a SI joint injection that worked wonders for about 3 weeks. Was wondering if anyone else with AS and SI joint pain has had an ablation of the nerves in the joint and if so, what was their results.
Yes I did a double SI ablation in February with local anesthesia. My doc skipped the test somehow. Turned out to be horrible. Sent me into a flare for 6 weeks. But remember that everyone is different… read more
71 yo female.. Just dx due to co of back pain and severe stiffness this past yr. Had issues in the past.....but I could function well. Visible bridging in thoracic spine, not much other areas. Joint pains. Positive for HLA B27 gene. Prednisone really helped. Rheumatologist rec Enbrel. Hoping insurance will cover.
I’m experiencing a lot of swelling and pain located in my ankles but also in the other joints of my feet, sometimes stabbing pains, aching, neuropathy, numbness & certain movements cause sharp pains. Some days it feels like I sprained my ankle, others not. They also at times appear bruised. X-rays show no significant arthritis. Does anyone else experience this type of pain & has your rheumatologist confirmed it’s related to AS?
I used to have compression socks, but am doing much better now with Yoga and Hydroxychloroquine.
It took 9 months, a lot of tests, and a 12 day hospital stay to rule out everything else for me. I have it in my peripheral joints so not as simple to diagnose
I was diagnosed in Dec. I am trying to exercise (yoga), walk, drink lots of water, eat healthier, etc..Pray daily, couldnt go without it..
Does the pain get better or lesser? How do you deal with it and daily stress?
That was diagnosed in 1984 and my first flare was 14 years earlier.. There was no internet or other resources to figure out or research what I had and what to expect. So I just lived forward and dealt… read more
