@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Hi Mia, im pretty sure that we all relate well and understand your disappointment and frustration with Biologics. I allowed my Rheumi to experiment on me with 5 different Bios - Humira, Cosentyx, Embrel, Orencia, and Skyrizi, in that order - before I began doing a deep dive research into them. I felt like they would surely work for me. The ads look amazing, my diet was/is amazing, lifestyle great, my dr was enthusiastic. My results were increased number, double, of psoriasis lesions, development of inverse genital psoriasis that literally frayed my labia (no more sex for my Saint of a husband), and eventually chronic kidney disease, liver disease, and extreme neutropenia (no more white blood cells production) that led to two bouts of lung infections. At that point i looked into exactly what Bios do...they target one or a small group of specific cytokines. Yet the drs do not run blood tests to determine which, if any, cytokines are responsible for your particular body's inflammation. Instead they prescribe Bios based on insurance industry mandates which are set by actuarial tables that determine liability costs for them. It has very little to do with your own body. I decided no more Bios for me until some dr can and will run a cytokine assay on me. For example, Humira targets TNF-a, but if your inflammation is caused by IL-23 Humira will not only not work, it could lead to one or all of the side affects that happened to me. Furthermore, when I researched how Bios are made, I learned that most are made by engineering new DNA molecules inside of Chinese Hamster Ovaries. Now how can a Chinese rodent be a good thing to inject into our bloodstream? Do your research Mia. Find out what is actually causing your body to be inflamed. Address the causes and you'll begin to feel better. Throwing meds at symptoms is little more than Russian roulette. Start with deeper level testing than your regular drs order, another insurance industry protocol. Find a good lab, I used Life Extension, or a functional medicine practitioner to test and reveal your causes. Treat those to get your health and life back. Reach out anytime for more details on any of this. Yours in better health P π π
I can't give an honest answer, I've gone through the regimen in 20+ years. Methotrexate, Enbril, Taltz, Cosentyx and XelJanz. Short term help if any, lifetime side effects from all. But that was just my journey. I've found that acceptance, hope, solid relationships, diet, Prayer and some pain killers and I finally have a life worth living. Its not glamorous but it's mine. For a long time happiness had fled from me, but now that I know the rules and come to terms, I am truly happy with myself and my life. Good luck on your journey and best wishes.
Hoping they are able to find u something that does work for u im sick of taking pills so I font bother with drs anymore
What ever gives relief is temporary when yr body says no more u will have to change unfortunately.keep untouch with me Γ¬m here for u bby & I worked in a hospital for 36yrs ive seen everything. So ask me anything. Im here for every body.
What are your options after Hyrimoz and Cosentyx haven't worked out?
It's actually quite common to switch biologics when finding the right fit. About 20-30% of people with spondylitis switch medications because one didn't work well enough or caused side effects like your stomach issues.
Since you've tried a TNF-alpha Show Full Answer
