I’m newly diagnosed with AS, but a long term sufferer. It’s crazy to me how brushed off the diagnosis of this disease is! I just started Enbrel and took my fourth dose yesterday. I honestly thought I would be feeling much better by now, but I guess these medications take months to be effective, not weeks?
My rheumatologist has said with the meds I have been on, Cimzia and Hyrimoz, that I should have results by the 3 month mark. I did the Cimzia for a year. I didn’t think it gave me any relief but when I did my “washout” (did not take any biological for several weeks to get all of it out of my system before trying something new), I did feel like my symptoms got worse. I tried Hyrimoz for 4 months, didn’t get any relief and had some uncomfortable symptoms. Dr advised if I didn’t feel relief by now. I probably won’t feel much different in a couple months and not worth the ride effects.
It’s just like anything else, have to keep working until you find what works for you!! It’s a long and expensive process but keep in contact with your rheumatologist!
I am on Cosentyx, and it has taken 7 months before I started to feel any relief. As soon as I am close to the next infusion, my body feels it - about 5 days prior to the next infusion. It's exhausting. I need additional help. I am in pain and tired all of the time. Hang in there all!
@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. I allowed my Rheumi to try me on 5 biologics before i gave up. Humira, Cosentyx, Enbrel, Orencia, and Skyrizi. None did anything for my pain and fatigue, they even made me much worse, causing severe neutropenia, liver, and kidney injuries amongst others. A Hematologist i was sent to told me the worsening conditions were due to the Biologics. Thats when i began researching and educating myself. Most Biologics are made by combining human and Chinese Hamster Ovaries DNA into a lab created new DNA designed to target your immune system. To me, it sounds like more big pharma experimenting on desperate unwitting pain racked patients. Did your dr tell you why Enbrel's one time big spokesman Phil Mikelson quit Enbrel? Probably not. Did he tell you it was manufactured with the use of Chinese Hamster Ovaries? Would you have tried it if he did?
A better option is to see a Functional Medicine practitioner to help you get to the root cause if your disease process, then help you find a way to eliminate the cause(s). No Biologic or otherwise can do that. All the meds do, if you're lucky, is take the edge off for a while. Eventually, as long as the cause is still present, there will be a breakthrough worse than before the meds were begun. Additionally, major vital organs will begin to weaken, then possibly even fail. Discover your triggers and get rid of them. That is the only way. Reach out for details anytime. Yours in better health P 😌🙏 and
I was lucky in that it started quickly with my first biological others have taken a couple of weeks to work. Keep forging ahead!
While some people may experience relief after their first biologic treatment, it's completely normal that you haven't felt significant improvement yet. Biologics typically take several weeks to months to reach their full effectiveness. The standard recommendation is to give any new medication about three months to determine Show Full Answer
