Can ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis cause tennis elbow?
Both conditions can cause pain in the elbow area through a condition called enthesitis — inflammation where tendons and ligaments attach to bone. This is a hallmark feature of spondyloarthritis.
While not specifically "tennis elbow" in the traditional sense, enthesitis can affect the attachment points around your elbow, causing similar pain and discomfort. This inflammation is particularly common with psoriatic arthritis, which can affect any joint in the body.
The pain from enthesitis tends to be different from typical overuse injuries. It's caused by your immune system creating inflammation at these attachment sites rather than from repetitive motion alone.
If you're experiencing elbow pain, it's worth discussing with your rheumatologist to determine if it's enthesitis or another cause, as treatment approaches may differ.
