Balance Problems And Sore Ribs
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm new on here and I haven't seen anything about balance problems. Is this just me or does anyone else have these problems. I just can't always walk a straight line. When I walk down the hallway in my house I sometimes almost bounce from wall to the opposite wall
I also get sore ribs. I ended up spending a night in the hospital because I couldn't draw in a full breath because I hurt in the middle of my chest (Sternum?) and around my left side ribs and to my back. I have some compression… read more

I have had balance for longer than I can remember. Like many others I can't walk a straight line (can't draw one either, lol). But I also have a problem with being able to judge distances. I always see things much closer than they really are. Not sure if that is related to my chronic uveitis, which I know is part of my spondylitis, but at least I see things as close and don't crash into things as I imagine I would if I saw things further away. I'm lucky that my husband and I are retired and he does most of the driving. I do have a handicapped parking pass right now but that is only because of my recent knee replacement. Usually on my bad days he just drops me off close and then goes and parks.
As far as the rib pain I never related it to my spondylitis but I guess it probably is. I said something about it toy mom once and she said she gets it too and was told she had a nerve that occasionally got pinched so I never said anything to my doctor's, maybe I should.

I too have balance issues. Use a walker or cane, it is better than having broken bones due to falling because of losing balance. I also have rib/chest pain. Sometimes it is hard to breathe, sometimes feels like a heart attack. Pain and muscle spasms that can last from a few minutes to a couple of days. It feels like my ribs are breaking. I was told by my doctor that anywhere where muscle attaches to bone pain and inflammation can occur. I also get jaw pain.
