My dermatologist suggested the injection bimzelx. I ran it by my pcp and ask her if I should get it because I have a few thing wrong in my intestines. I haven't been diagnosed with ibd but a do get a significant amount of inflammation. I have been diagnosed with diverticulosis 3 pouches. Food allergies and ulcers. My pcp said they actually use this injection for IBD but when I read up on it I'm pretty sure it said it can make it worse. She really seems to think a biologic we really help. But I… read more
Thank you
@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. A functional medicine practitioner can help you get this mess straightened out. Everything you mention points to gut microbiome imbalance. Your Specialists oin conventional medicine, Gadtroenterologist, Rheumatologist, Dermatologist, Surgeons, etc. won't order the tests needed to sort it out because the tests are not insurance industry mandated standard of care protocol. A functional/integrated medicine practitioner will, but it will be an out of pocket expense. If you can bring yourself to pay for it, it's likely to be the best thing you can ever do to figure out why you're having all the problems you mention. I had them at one time too. Now i dont. It will show you what's wrong so you can address it all. Naturally. Fair warning though, it will require a change in diet, probably lidestyle, and possibly environmental corrections too. Many changes to address. But it is doable and it does work if you can commit to it. Best of luck to you.
I'm sorry i got this a little backward. My dermatologist said that i have hs. My pcp said that makes so much sense what's been going on in my body for roughly 4 years. (Actually longer then that but that's when all hell broke loose) the whole medical system acted like I was crazy because my blood work will be normal i finally got my dr to send me to the rheumatologist and he shrugged me off at the 2nd appointment because my blood work was normal but sent me for a hip xray that now shows MORE ARTHRITIS in both of my hips. Which is now more then half of my body and told me to go to physical therapy. Then I went and saw my dermatologist for the first time and she said I have HS and suggested bimzelx and said it will help with my joint pain. Then I went to my pcp and she said she agreed and say that As will explain everything that's been happening. I haven't seen my gastro dr in a while. So my rheumatologist pretty much just let me go without any help at all. My pcp is a NP
That sounds exhausting — hurting from your eyes to your feet, dealing with gut issues, and relying on steroids for years. It makes complete sense that you're ready for a better option.
Your instinct to double-check Bimzelx is a smart one. Bimzelx is an IL-17 inhibitor, and this class of biologic can be effective for Show Full Answer
