How does struggling with breathing relate to your spondylitis?

Breathing difficulties can definitely occur with spondylitis, and you're not alone in experiencing this. Several factors related to the condition can make it harder to breathe normally.

Spondylitis can affect your chest and rib cage, causing stiffness that makes it difficult to take deep breaths. When the condition affects your spine, it can physically limit chest expansion. Additionally, if spondylitis affects your cervical spine or temporomandibular joint, it can impact the mechanisms that control normal breathing.

Getting winded from minimal activity like walking across your house is something other MySpondylitisTeam members have experienced too. One member shared they were "having breathing issues" alongside their back problems, while another described fighting with breathing difficulties significantly. Here are some steps that may help:

- Practice breathing exercises regularly, which can help reduce chest stiffness and improve oxygen levels
- Stay physically active within your limits, allowing plenty of time for breaks and rest
- Talk to your rheumatologist about your breathing issues, as they may want to evaluate if spondylitis is affecting your chest wall or spine
- Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke

If your breathing difficulties are severe or worsening, it's important to discuss this with your doctor to rule out other respiratory concerns and ensure you're getting appropriate treatment for your spondylitis.

If it isn't costochondroitis, it could be a decreased ability for oxygen to get into your cells efficiently. I just learned something about this not long ago and thought of you. I'll see if I can find it and send it to you. The bottom line is that an adjustment in nutrition that focuses on cleaning out diseased senescent cells and replacing them with healthy ones restores oxygen needs for energy production throughout the body. Unfortunately this is not the focus of "modern" medicine and healing from chronic lifelong buildup of toxins and other stressors that eventually can lead to full blown autoimmune disease and other lifelong destructive processes. But it actually can be stopped and turned around so that you can age like other healthy people instead of exponentially. I hope you have (had) a Happy Thanksgiving 😌🙏
