The vagus nerve is the lingest nerve in the body (at leadt i think i recall learning that, but you may want to double check if you care to) and affects almost every function. There are some cool tricks you can do to manipulate it to control some functions, especially annoying ones like hiccups.

Btw, my favorite source of medical/body education is the free webinars that include interviews from health professionals of all backgrounds. I post notices about these because they have significantly improved my overall condition. I listen, jot down notes of particular interest such as supplements or products i want to do further research on.
