Members overwhelmingly encouraged someone with SI joint, back, hip, and knee pain to use a cane without hesitation, sharing that mobility aids are about function and safety rather than age, with several noting they've used canes or walkers since their 30s, 40s, and 50s. Many community members described practical benefits including improved balance, the ability to shift weight off painful joints, prevention of falls, and relief from pressure on the back and hips, with suggestions ranging from quad canes for extra stability to walking sticks for lumbar support. A recurring theme was that while pride might be a temporary hurdle, the freedom, safety, and pain relief a cane provides far outweighs any stigma, and members encouraged finding one that feels both functional and personally appealing.

I’m 67 years old and I have used a cane since I was 50 years old. It’s a great way to move safely and stopping a fall many times.

I feel alot safer with my walker it depends on how good ur balance is too the last thing u need is to fall at least with walker u have something to lean on if ur in to much pain u can slways sit on ur walker that's what I do when my left leg buckles if I walk to much. Also for ur pain get some cbd oil it really works.

I use a walking stick for stability and when my back starts to tighten I can lean on the stick to relieve the pressure. I am 60 years old with lumbar stenosis

I use one to keep myself steady. I also have bad hips and my cane keeps me safe in case one decides to break. A hip, that is.
