Question...I saw this asked 2 years ago by someone but didn't see many answers. My inflammation markers are negative and HLAB27 is +. I have (in 4 years) developed severe joint facet arthropathy in my lumbar spine and also have SI degeneration. I know this has all happened in 4 years because in 2018 my MRI lumbar was as close to normal as you can get. I have severe stiffness in lower back, following 3 and a half decades of hyper mobility. I have had 2 cervical discetomies as well. I'm having SI… read more
I rarely have elevated inflammation markers such as CRP. My ESR is up at times. It doesn’t mean anything. If you’re symptomatic, especially with the HLA-B27, you probably have AS. I used to try to… read more
I have a spondylitis condition (sacroiliitis) and Crohn's. The Crohn's is in remission; one of my sacroiliac joints has been fused for many years and the other one is partially fused. I'm not experiencing any pain in my spine in several years. Several doctors have recommended a biologic to stop disease progression; my previous Rheumatologist who recently retired said my current medication (Sulphasalazine) seems to be helping my spondylitis.
I have been on Sulphasalazine for about 20 years. I… read more
I honestly would be okay with taking both. I take sulfasalazine and humira. Once disease progresses, there is no going back.
Literature states 20-30’s yrs at onset. I’ve always had low back pain and problems all my life but suddenly have a Sacroilitis but am not being told anything. Just take these pills and it will help. Waiting for VA to approve of me going to the spine clinic at our local physicians group. Just aggravated because I’m layning on my back or standing are my only 2 positions I can stand.
I’m in a similar pickle here in Washington. I get a lot of referrals to things like, Tai Chi, Accupuncture, and Recreational Therapy? Not sure how that helps my sacroilitis? Maybe acupuncture but they… read more
Yes exactly that’s my point too. There’s definitely a lot more than just the gene and elevated bloodwork levels to take into account. Obviously, though they are still good to look at. ☺️
@ Atccmt7 - sounds like it’s time for a new set of X-rays. Is your thoracic painful? Feel like you’re being pushed forward? I have AS and these are just a few of symptoms I was experiencing when I… read more
Thanks so much for your response! Can I ask what you mean by negative or positive just for clarification? My MRI shows so much damage to my spine... I am 52 and have been searching for the answers to… read more
I am also breathless when doing moving about.
I'm about to start Humira. Is it worth the try?
Based on my experience, you should probably go see a rheumatologist. I have had a few different issues misdiagnosed by my family practice dr. I think an mri would show it.
I was on very low dose of Ultram and it helped me. Since moving to another place, I have not been able to receive anything at all. My MRI and x rays show the deteriorated spine I have, but only give spine injections. Not going for that option.🥺
Good morning 🌞, I so relate to what your saying and sadly experiencing too. If our quality of life is so important, then why ignore our very real suffering? For some injections, and things inserted… read more
