I was diagnosed with 'non radiographic' AS (although it's questionable about the NR b/c my doctor saw inflammation on the MRI, brought it to the attention of the radiologist who then agreed) and started with taking Piroxicam at night. Initially and for the first time in my life I woke up in the morning without pain. I then was prescribed Cimzea (the medication for NR AS). It's been close to a year and recently, I started having the same pain in the morning where it's difficult to straighten up… read more
My doc tried to get me in a drug trial but the mri didn’t show inflammation and hla b27 was negative so I don’t qualify. Now I’m stressed that this info will make him rethink my diagnosis. I was happy(sort of) to finally having an answer to why I’m in so much pain all the time and get on track to feeling better(sort of). His diagnosis was based on deteriorating of the si joints caught on an X-ray.
And another question or anomaly or craziness is flareups so apparently we can go long stretches of time without a flareup until something stress induced happens and then all kinds of major medical… read more
I live in constant pain and have for years. I wake up in pain...everything causes pain. Exercise actually helps.
I also take a pain killer in the am so I can get out of bed.
Ive tried everything from Gabapentin to acupuncture to opiods. All help some...but not that much.
I'm currently on celebrex but it doesn't do much for my extreme fatigue. However, some of the side effects for cimzia make me a little nervous. For example, one was that it lowers your immune system which mine already sucks. And I don't want it to affect my anemia. Any advice?
So , I’ve been diagnosed relatively recently , and my rheumatologist tried to get me on anti inflammatories , but it has failed to work . I’m wondering abt what the next step in my treatment might be . She alluded to bio therapy , but will she put that in place right away ( it’s the 2 nd time I see her ) ? Will she try and up my dosage ? Do you guys have any idea what she’ll do ?
Thank you in advance for your answers :)

Hello everyone! I need some advice. I have Ankylosing Spondylitis and have a really hard time with anti-inflammatory meds. All of the nsaids that my Drs have given me to this point and the otc ones I've tried on my own have really done a nasty number on my stomach. So, today my new rheumatologist prescribed Celebrex for me saying that he has had some really good luck with it being better tolerated by patients with stomach issues like myself. We also discussed my possibly finally biting the… read more
I find access hard to the specialists I need. I have waited years to get a local rheumatologist. I have no idea what they will do or say and that is horrifying.
Finally linked all the many symptoms - over many years - together and investigated ankylosing spondylitis. Learned that I am HLA-B27 positive and realized that my father was disabled at 50 yrs old - probably due to undiagnosed AS. Thankfully, my inflammation is moderate and non-radiographic. I have managed it with Celebrex and pain control - along with serious diet and exercise.

A little bit of background
I live in the UK and am blessed to have the NHS. The problem is that it is struggling and the area I live in has particularly bad waiting times (shortages of beds, doctors, nurses etc)
I was waiting for 22 months for an appointment with the chronic pain consultant
I was excited and nervous. My GP had told me of various treatments which could be offered to me (tens unit, spinal epidural etc)
My appointment was on Monday and the doctor went to great lengths to explain… read more
