It’s the pain I stopped taking gabapentin. Some pain pills will dope you up.
Like a knife in you sometimes.

That can be so incredibly frustrating. Have you had a chance to talk with someone specific about it. I find my brain runs on fast so I have to intentionally take a breath and slow down my response.

So I played flute and was in a little orchestra. I would take the pain pills 1 hour before the performances. It was enough time to numb me and not enough of the drug in my system to make me sluggish.
Take pills and talk out loud and You will get acclimated watching the clock when you are feeling ok and less fuzzy. I had a pain book. So I logged how much. How long I could go. And how much I did before I really felt painful.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member; I am
like that too. My mind runs faster than my mouth. It makes it challenging when making a response anyway because sometimes I have to verbally remind someone I am talking to that it may take longer for me to respond. Some people understand, some don’t. Those that don’t, I don’t go out of my way to talk to. Combine that with the Brain fog that comes from AS, and it make communicating in a meaningful way challenging. I do talk with people I am communicating with about the dilemma so they know where I am coming from. I have not raised this yet with a Rheumatologist or other medical professional yet as I am still navigating other more immediate problems. ( Tomorrow morning I have a cardiac catheterization with possibility of having a stent placed. I am hoping that will be successful, without them having to do a bypass!)
If I do what @A MySpondylitisTeam Member does, and eat something I shouldn’t, my ankles may blow up to maybe size of a baseball. But I wear compression socks to keep that at bay!
If each of you has similar problems to
mine, I hope that you all speak up to those you are communicating with to let them know that this is what happens to you and does not mean by your lack of immediate response that it doesn’t mean you are not interested in replying or communicating!!

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. I sometimes have what feels to me like slurred speech. I am not having difficulty with coming up with words I want to say such as Drew describes. And it is not trying to speak fast enough to keep up with my brain such as Liz describes. I have at times experienced both. However, this feels similar to how I used to talk when I was "quite lit"🤪as in the good old days of occasional heavy drinking in fighter pilot bars. Now THAT is slurred speech!😅 Of course, I no longer drink a drop because one glass of wine will blow my knees and ankles up like sports balls of various sizes.☹️

This is truly slurred speech and I have been checked out by multiple Neurologists as well as an Otolaryngologist who have diagnosed "organic essential tremor of the tongue, throat, vocal chords, and larynx" (aka voice box). It is the result of damage in the vertebrae, particularly C3-C6 where almost everyone with neck issues has damage for whatever reason, including car accidents and Spondylitis arthritis.

Hope this adequately answers your question. Yes, it is just another part of your fun condition.😑 Hmmm, I wonder if drinking might relax it and we can talk normally again?🤔😜
