I am 63 and was diagnosed with Axial Spondyloarthritis in October 2025, and started Cimzia in Dec 2025. Two or three years ago I was still the energizer bunny, but can’t seem to keep up much energy now.

It's completely understandable to grieve the energetic version of yourself β€” that feeling is something many people with spondylitis relate to deeply. The good news is that Cimzia working well is a really positive sign, and there may still be room for improvement.

It's completely understandable to grieve the energetic version of yourself β€” that feeling is something many people with spondylitis relate to deeply. The good news is that Cimzia working well is a really positive sign, and there may still be room for improvement.

Fatigue is one of the most common and frustrating symptoms of axial spondyloarthritis. While biologics like Cimzia can significantly reduce inflammation and symptoms, complete relief from fatigue isn't guaranteed for everyone. Research shows that about 35% of people on biologic therapy report complete relief from fatigue β€” so it's worth having an honest conversation with your rheumatologist about whether your current plan can be fine-tuned. Beyond medication, there are lifestyle strategies that can help boost energy levels:

- Regular gentle exercise β€” it may feel counterintuitive, but staying active can actually improve how you feel
- Anti-inflammatory diet β€” options like the Mediterranean diet (rich in vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins) have shown benefits
- Quality sleep β€” managing pain effectively can improve sleep, which directly impacts energy
- Stress reduction β€” meditation, hobbies, or social connection can all help reduce inflammation triggers
- Maintaining a healthy weight and avoiding smoking also support overall disease management

Keeping a symptom journal to track your energy levels and sharing that with your doctor can help them tailor your treatment plan further. You're only 8 months in β€” there's still plenty of road ahead! πŸ’ͺ
