Members responded to concerns about a husband's side effects from sertraline (including weight gain, headaches, sleep disturbances, memory issues, and confusion), with experiences ranging from similar initial symptoms that improved after switching medications to no issues at all. Several members shared helpful context, noting that these symptoms could stem from the sertraline, his underactive thyroid, low vitamin B12 levels, or a combination of factors, and emphasized the importance of comprehensive testing, possible medication adjustments, and exploring alternatives like essential oils for stress and inflammation. A recurring theme was the value of self-advocacy with doctors, tracking symptoms carefully, and addressing both physical and emotional health holistically, with members offering deep empathy and practical resources to support the journey toward wellness.

Hi @A MySpondylitisTeam Member awww lovely to hear from you always Pitac yes I did I was thinking about where you were and if your ok 💖.
Blimey you tried most meds, thst is true you really have bless you.
Yes my husband had very bad depression and has been on it for two years but no review till I rang up for him as he has social anxiety so doesn’t like talking in the phone, what they did was higher his meds to 150 he was on a 100 it has helped the feelings he was having but emotionally made him worse with those things, memory issues he has always had normal things forgetting his keys but just recently got worse with remembering and yes thyroid meds no review till July.
He has been on them years and ok.
But his vitamin b12 is low about 300 and something but still low.
I am so very sorry what you battled through your a survivor though big hugs 🤗 ❤️
My husband decided not to take 150 do he is on 100 and his appointment is on the 2nd March he wants to come off them so will tell the doctor.
So serotonin syndrome I have heard of that.
A holiday well hopefully later in the year.
Yes we are waiting for the council to check on that as well.
I rang up about that after what you said.
I didn’t think about the thyroid but he will write that down and the vitamin B12 .
Blessings you Pitac what would we all do without your, your knowledge is amazing thank you ❤️🙏.
Will let you know when we know. I am so glad your not feeling those symptoms anymore and if you ever do you have a friend across the pond to talk with I hope you know that.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. It's me again!😁 did you miss me ?!😄 I forgot to reply to your query about my current happiness. Yes, probably more so than most. I learned a long time ago that true happiness is a choice, not a result of circumstances, places, or other people. That said, it does help to be married to a Saint. I truly feel that my husband deserves to be canonized. What a man! 34 years for us. He is so very very good and supportive of me in every way imaginable. With a torn gluteus medius tendon and labrum in one hip, along with a ravaged labia courtesy of Biologics spreading psoriasis to that area, I haven't been able to have "physically intimate" contact with him in about 3 or 4 years. Not giving up on that yet, but this mess looks like it was hit by a truck in imaging and is taking frustratingly long to heal. My wonderful man never pressures me, doesn't even bring it up because he knows that im doing all that I can as fast as I can. A lifetime of constant damage doesn't heal overnight. He's just thrilled that I can walk without aids more than a couple hundred meters now, almost 5km now🙌. He sees how hard i work at it, my full commitment to the entire process of shedding dead and diseased cells while growing new ones to replace them. When he's home he walks with me, carrying my bottle (stainless steel, no plastics) of water and hiking sticks. He's my pack mule.😄
We have two amazing children, 28 and 30, self sufficient and on their own doing what they enjoy. One lives across the country, whom we're planning to visit in May, the other just one mile away. Both quite healthy.
As for the parents, I forgave them years ago. We had a "come to Jesus meeting" where I brought up all the trauma dramas they inflicted on me and the consequential damage that did to me. They acknowledged it, apologized, and we have moved on. They live one mile from me and I see them a couple times a month. I tried doing more for them, realized I couldnt, and so they use my dad's veterans services now that provide free help for them. All is well there now. They treat me with respect.
How about you Jan? Are your parents still living? Do you have children?
Yours in better health P 😌 🙏

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Dusty is gorgeous! She looks like my dad's late gray beauty, Ivan. When he passed, last year in summer, I never have seen my dad so sad, never a bigger deeper frown on any human. When it comes to fathers, and mothers, of that generation, especially there in the UK so keenly focused on what was "appropriate", they were extremely focused on what others thought about them and their families. Negative emotions in us were repressed, we needed to be strong and happy no matter what was going on, physically and emotionally. Decades of being told we should be happy, we were not injured , we should "get out there" and chase the highest levels of success in every way is highly sabotaging to mental and physical health. They had the backdrop of their own (post) WWII childhoods. Compared to that, our generation faced nothing awful in their opinions. They had no real understanding of seeing the world we grew up in as nonetheless daunting even though bombs weren't being dropped on the home. As a result, here is our generation and younger, raised to repress everything. When the "stiff upper lip" is the childhood rearing yardstick, the child's body has only itself to release the consequences of negative feelings. Our autonomic nervous system does not distinguish between childhood teasing and bombs. It's all the same, the nervous system will respond to flee or fight or freeze in place and nothing anyone says or teaches can change the level of response. Not being allowed to express negative emotions resulted in our minds going into the sympathetic nervous state permanently switched on. A lifetime of this results in chronic disease. Addressing this is every bit as important as addressing a herniated fusc or tirn tendon. You have over there a therapist that I have listened to quite a bit, Alex Howard. I highly recommend listening to some of his free podcasts and interviews. You, I, your husband, and everyone else CAN HEAL my friend. True acceptance within of all that we feel and experience is the most powerful medicine out there. Yours in better health my friend, Pitac 😌🙏

Thyroid and Adrenal docu class. Now over, worth subscribing to. If nothing else, look for Jonathan Landsman online. He has loads of very informative and helpful interviews with many types of drs. We can only do so much, but it's probably more than the drs will do for us. Educating ourselves is essential not just for survival, but for thriving as we age.😘
