Mine hurts when sitting for more than an hour. I Get up and stretch for 15 minutes every hour, then it doesn't hurt anymore. As long as i stick to that, no problem with the coccyx.

With me, it’s not my tailbone, but my sciatica and my hips. Oh, do they hurt?

Yes, tailbone (sacroiliac joint) pain is a very common symptom of AS, particularly in the lower back and buttocks area. This type of pain is inflammatory in nature, which means it can:

- Develop gradually over weeks or months
- Linger and potentially worsen over time
- Feel more intense in the morning or after sitting for long periods
- Improve with movement and anti-inflammatory medications One MySpondylitisTeam member shared that their AS journey began with sharp tailbone pain during their teenage years. This is actually quite common, as AS symptoms often begin in late adolescence or young adulthood. The pain can spread throughout the body over time if not properly managed.

To help manage tailbone pain, consider:
- Taking prescribed anti-inflammatory medications
- Maintaining good posture while sitting
- Using a cushion designed for tailbone support
- Staying active with doctor-approved exercises

Hi @A MySpondylitisTeam Member I have had chronic tailbone pain for too many years to count..my old primary care provider said that was the beginning of A.S. pain..I have to sit to the left , it may look normal but weight is on one side, I had so much squeezing pressure on my coccyx I couldn't walk..pain is always there but some day are ooouuch!! When I walk I take small steps and I can't lift my feet so I shuffle along..I wish you the best of luck..lidocaine patches will take the pain away, I have found removing the patch is the worst because I know within a 20 minutes it will be inscrutiating again..most days are tolerable (amazing how we can live with pain) let's say a 5 on pain scale is normal for me..includes entire body..best of luck my friend

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. You may want to ask for an MRI of the area if you haven't had one yet, just to be sure it isn't an issue with your equina cauda nerve, my own new pleasure trip that I'm reading should not be ignored. It controls whether you walk, poop and pee. Kind of important to keep healthy.😕
