While NSAID sensitivity isn't a direct symptom of AS, it can be a challenging complication that affects treatment options. When NSAIDs cause increased pain or adverse reactions, it's important to work closely with your healthcare provider to explore alternative treatment approaches.
If you're experiencing new sensitivities to both NSAIDs and steroids, this should be documented and discussed with your rheumatologist immediately. These reactions could impact your treatment plan and require adjustments. Alternative treatment options may include:
- Biologic medications, particularly TNF inhibitors
- Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs)
- Carefully monitored different types of steroids (if only some cause reactions)
- Lifestyle modifications including regular exercise and stress management
Always report any new medication reactions to your healthcare provider immediately, as they may need to adjust your treatment plan or explore different medication combinations that work better for your specific situation.
