Saw my pain specialist today, & I have been having chronic low back/pelvic/SI joint pain going on 7 years now. Unfortunately, everything he has tried has either only given me temporary relief or no relief. I am now having right SI joint/hip & sciatic pain. So he is ordering an MRI & will do a steroid injection, & if no relief, then will trial a epidural spinal cord stimulator. If this works, then he will implant one permanently. I am desperate for some relief. I live daily at a 6/10. So done!

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. I'm not so sure you wouldn't benefit from a stimulator due to stenosis. I have loads of stenosis, 5 in my neck alone, and I find external stimulator helpful. Have you tried one of those? If an external one does help and you want to go with an internal one, mention to your dr that it helps, maybe he'd reconsider.
I’m in the process of changing pain management. The one I’ve been seeing now for 8yrs has done not much to improve my quality of life. They just keep insisting on steroids injections in various areas. Wanted to try stimulator in the patient No was very adamant about it my pain management doc. So I’m looking elsewhere. Tired of not being heard!! 🥲
Dawn I would definitely inquire about the stimulator or even the vertiflex is another option that Boston Scientific has on the market to help. I myself inquired about both but in my case my Pain Management Doc said I would not benefit due to severe Stenosis! Frustrating!!!🥹 But I’m keep researching to help me with all my symptoms including the SI joint pain too. 😉 Good Luck.
@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Do the external e-stims work for you? If the external ones work, it's a fair indicator that the internal one will. Ideally, whatever you do for pain relief, it will enable you to perform the PT, the most effective permanent solution. 💪
Thank you, but, for me I really don’t want to go the route of a fusion just yet. Surgery is my last option. I am happy that it has helped you though. I will see if the spinal cord stim will work first.
