I'm 73 yo female healthy all of my life until my legs started aching and back pain became regular. I was recently dx'ed with SA. I have just started Humira. Also take methotrexate and prefnisone. At the the same time have come to need hip replacement. Having these 2 together, it's hard to separate which pain is from which ailment. My muscles are constantly aching, especially my legs. Getting into bed is a nightmare. I'm walking with a cane or in a wheelchair. I feel devastated, crying a lot and… read more
Info please, above, I hope your surgery will help you with your pain. When we are out of alignment, I feel like it adds to all kinds of pain issues. Sometimes I use pillows, to get into the best natural alignment I can, maybe lying on your good side with a pillow between your knees to change the angle of your hips could relieve some of the pain? I do this when my SI joint act up and it seems to help. Sometimes too, elevating my legs on a pillow or two changes the alignment enough to take pressure off my lower back and hips. Try the heat too, I have a theory, I think it confuses the pain nerves! It increases circulation and relaxes soft tissues around wherever we are injured. I have a heating pad for the bad pain, an electric blanket for when I ache all over, and a wonderful back and neck jacket that heats up and relaxes my back like nothing else can! I hope your pain lessens going forward. No one deserves to be in constant pain like you have described. Good luck with your upcoming surgery.
Dear, Info Please, sorry you are having so much pain, hard to know where it is coming from, but for the deep achiness you mentioned, I get relief from using an electric blanket or heating pad depending on where it hurts. An hour wrapped in an electric blanket and just relaxing can make the world of difference for that aching all over feeling. I do this early am's and again by late afternoons, my two worst times of day when I'm the stiffest and in pain. That's also when I take my meds and just rest for an hour. The rest of the day is more bearable when I claim those two hours to myself to address my pain. good luck to you!
Dotty, BTW, thought I'd share my fix for RLS with you. My rheumy prescribed Baclofen 10 mg at bedtime for the RLS. Haven't had it since, and no other side effects! Ask your doc if you can try it!
Yes I have a bed warmer on most of the day and then ice. This has been going on for 30 years! I just am tired all the time and not sleeping now so I have to get some relief soon! I live for my family and grandchildren! If I could get a redo I would!! And I’m allergic to some meds and just finding a doctor is a choir just because some people ruin it for people who have pain and some days you need it! If the rich and famous would quit abusing it then we might not have as many problems 😜
It is very hard to separate the pain issues. Mine are about the same as yours plus restless legs.
I had a total hip replacement about a year and a half ago. It has helped, still have pain at times but now I can figure out what is causing it.
Good luck😊
