Members rallied around someone whose doctor dismissed their positive test results and X-rays because of their gender, with the overwhelming consensus being to seek a second opinion and specifically request a referral to a rheumatologist, who are the specialists trained to properly diagnose and treat conditions like ankylosing spondylitis. Several members shared that women can and do have AS, with one member noting that five family members including four women have the condition, and others emphasized that biologics are the primary treatment and can take weeks to months to show effectiveness. A recurring theme was fierce advocacy against medical dismissiveness, with members encouraging the person to stand firm in demanding proper care and not allowing any doctor's outdated or ignorant beliefs to prevent them from getting the diagnosis and treatment they deserve.

Biologics are medicine they use for RA. AS. And other auto immune disease. Yes you need a Rhematologist. The medicines like everything ELSE THE first one may not work for YOU and it can take 2 weeks and up to 3 months for them to help. Hope you get some help soon.❤

Yes I agree cruel, I would ask for another referral for a second opinion everyone has right to a second opinion and frankly some doctors shouldn’t be in practice and that is a very ignorant and cruel thing to say what he told you I’m sorry you’ve experienced this, please get second opinion and tell your regular doctor why and demand second opinion and do not tell the second doctor what the first said let them develop their own opinion without influence from the first doctors opinion

Auto immune disease that show up are not inconclusive in blood work I don't believe. I think if it's genetic but then no one really knows. It's a cruel disease NO matter HOW you get it.

I have AS and so do five other family members, four being women. Have your doctor watch this video. It is my Dr. Hillary Norton in Santa Fe NM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUYzi86w5oQ
