Do We Have THIS In Common Too?
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

After mentally focusing as long or intense as I can handle on a "less brainfoggy" afternoon (or hour), I am then more deeply exhausted than ever! It takes me DAYS (or longer) to recooperate back to "My usual."

It's BRAIN activity, not muscle activity. Why is my BODY deeply fatigued?

I make myself play word games like Words with Friends and Scrabble, as well as puzzle games where I have to match up different things to go through the different levels. I have to use logic in all of them, so it keeps my brain going.
I also read before I go to sleep at the end of the day.
I get out in the fresh air at least a dozen times a day too, especially if I find myself flagging (as my mum used to say!), even if it's just a wander around the garden (it's tiny!).
Yes, I get stuck for commonly used words every single day, struggling to remember what I did last week or if I've already told someone something (I usually have, but someone my age has usually forgotten I have anyway lol), my daughters will pull me up on it if I have! Yes I forget what I'm meant to be doing or go off subject halfway through a sentence, but I laugh at it and move on...then remember an hour or so later!
Fatigue, it builds up through the week and I have to have a 10 minute power nap or sometimes 30 minutes and I find myself nodding off in the evening almost every day! But, I refuse to give in to it; if I find myself beginning to, I do what I said above, if it's wet or cold, I'll find something to do indoors. I refuse to let my body dictate how I live my life, I'm too young to vegetate and become old before my time. My health is just a small part of who I am, not what I am!

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member,
This is not a medical answer but I've been dealing with this stuff for a long time. The chronic pain, is usually 24/7 even if we don't feel it, the brain does. That keeps the brain running, even when we sleep, pain that we may feel, the brain does, which results in lack of REM sleep, and the really deep sleep we require to function. I have worked in the medical field for a long time. And I've had brain fog for about 10 years. I hope you find a solution. Soft hugs!

I like your attitude!
I love you last 2 sentences😊
that says it all!
I also do all of the things you do.
I am 71 but I have a child's heart and I also refuse to be defined by the illnesses that are present in my body.😉😊

I had a high iq and an eidetic memory. Now that is all long gone. Sort of enjoy not being able to recall things , reruns on tv are all new to me. Just look at the upside of everything is my moto . But won’t recall this in a day or two lol.

Brainfog is a part of Spondy. However many if the medications that are prescribed do also cause brainfog too. Being physically and mentally drained from the constent berage of our own bodies attacking themselves also adds to the problems .
