AS never goes away, it only stays some what manageable for some or keeps on rapidly getting worse for others as it is a lifelong disease affects people in different ways and levels I have had back pain for many years and was just recently diagnosed with AS, was shown the MRI and 4 sets of vertebrae fusing themselves together and lots more but too long of a list to name

I wouldn't have thought so it's a progressive illness which means that it will get worse with time, how much time seems to vary from person to person, some people remaining OK for longer than others, by OK I mean symptoms that are manageable and some people are in so much constant pain and have very little quality of life. You just don't know what will happen, mine was manageable for many years and mostly still is but it is getting worse and I'm getting worse symptoms than I have had before recently.
