Should I Increase My Gabapentin ???
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I started on 9 tabs a day for nerve damage in my feet but as diabetes is under control i am now on 4 tabs a day with codiene as needed for my back, recently my back has got worse and i am waiting to see a pain nurse in october. Does gabapentin help with back pain ???

Gabapentin is for nerve pain, like sciatica. I take it. 9 tabs is irrelevant also. They come in diffferent strengths. If you took 9 tabs a day in my strength then you could be in serious trouble!! I am an RN, they should be checking your Gabapentin level in your blood because there is a toxicity level. I had my dose lowered years ago because I was tired at work. I still have pain but not as bad than if I miss a dose. And it isn’t immediate. You build up a level over time. I take 800 Mg tablets. One in the morning 800MG and one and a half at night or 1200MG at bedtime.
It sounds like they may have loaded you with 9 tabs a day for a short period to lift your level then lowered it. To maintain it???

I didn’t know drs still prescribed Codeine. Most will prescribe Vicodin or Norco but being an opiod they probably have their hands tied by the government. Getting in the Way of drs taking care of their patients.

Talk to you doctor about whether or not you are a candidate for a device called spinal cord stimulator or interstim. I have really bad neuropathy in my feet. I had this device put in about 18 months ago and I no longer have pain in my feet. Mine was so bad that I was in a wheelchair in 2013. This device has been a lifesaver.

Yes, but I have other issues also. I would use an attorney, I used Pioneer Law Firm, everything was done over the phone. You dont pay them, but if you win, they get a percentage. It was worth it to me. I had my disability in 3 months. Goid luck

Always read the leaflet enclosed with your meds so YOU are in charge of whether to take them or not

Bee, looking at your answer about gabapentin and not being able to find words mid sentence this happens to me and I wonder if gabapentin is the reason, I was not on it for that long? How long did you take it for? I find this really scary cause it is often words I know well that just won't come to me, I have a friend who has dementia and is in a home now barely knowing her own family, the fear of that is always in the back of my mind so knowing it is more likely to be the gabapentin is a relief but also makes me angry that I was given this by the doctor and no mention of any lasting side effects it could cause. I would not have taken it had I known.
