Hi, I Was Diagnosed With Spondylolisthesis A Few Years Ago, Got Very Little Help From My GP. Is This The Right Group For Me?

The GP did eventually refer me to a consultant, only to be told he could not help.

Also I might add that just seeing a GP isn’t good enough. I am an RN. You need to see an orthopedic surgeon. You can see one without ever needing surgery. They do conservative treatment as well and may send you to a physical medicating and rehab dr. They are not surgeons. But @A MySpondylitisTeam Member stated that you should see a neurologist. No this is not where you start. First of all be very careful asking or giving out medical advice on a forum such as this. Spondylolesthesis is an orthopedic mechanical problem. Not neurological. Some people have nerve issues as a side effect.but it doesn’t mean it is a neurological problem. Same with AS it is orthopedic, rheumatic.

Some people have surgery and choose neurosurgeons to have the surgery done/. I have been one to go to ortho, for several reasons but first because orthopedic surgeons invented these surgeries and tthen taught neurosurgeons. Because it is somewhat of a crossover area. But I have always been of the camp that an orthopedic or bone problem should be treated by a bone specialist. After all I am not having nerve or spinal “cord” surgery. Just because the surgery is in the area of the spinal cord doesn’t mean that it is nerve surgery or brain surgery. So those are my main reasons.

But good luck to you, even though your diagnosis is very different from the spondylitis disease group.

I also have this but no this is a group for Ankylosing Spondylitis and related autoimmune or more accurately autoinfmmatory disorders. It is a chronic disease with no cure. Spondylolisthesis is where a vertebrae slips forward and over another vertebrae. It is treatable with surgery unless in an area like mine in the thoracic spine which is hard to correct.

Always someone around with a sympathetic ear or advice @A MySpondylitisTeam Member but most of all some understanding of the daily problems we face and pain levels and also the lack of real help from the medics.

Just dive in if you see a conversation you like or can add to and welcome in x
