Hi everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with AS and im currently only taking prescription NSAID. I just had a 2 week very painful flare up and seem to be coming out of it. The last day or 2 it seems that my back and other joints are “popping” more than usual even while doing everyday activities.

Does anyone else have this symptom after a rough flare up?

Members overwhelmingly confirmed that joint popping after a flare-up is a common experience with AS, with many describing loud cracking and popping in their knees, ankles, hips, back, wrists, and fingers that often happens daily but worsens after flares or during cold, damp weather. Several members shared that the popping sensation often signals inflammation subsiding or joints shifting, though some described an uncomfortable wiggling or moving feeling in the lower back that can be attributed to muscle spasms. A recurring theme was the importance of staying active through daily stretching, hot showers, physical therapy, and using tools like portable TENS units to prevent joint stiffness and fusion.

I have an older brother and sister who also have this condition but I keep being told it's not genetic but I don't believe my GP my mother had same condition as she got to her 40,s and my condition started to take hold at 41. So doctor was wrong!

Yes. If you laid up. Every joint could pop. You have to stretch every day to keep your bones and jointsfrom you fusing together. I go to Biosport therapy as well
