All autoimmune conditions are interrelated and have the same causes. The diagnoses and accompanying comorbidities/symptoms just come from where the inflammation is noticeable. That's why it's also common to have more than one diagnosis, especially when it comes from more than one dr. Those nodules on the hands are more common in RA. It's all based on the individual dr's personal past observed experiences amongst all his or her previous patients as well as schooling. For example, from 5 different drs i have had 5 different autoimmune diagnoses; fibromyalgia from a family practice dr, lupus from an Internal medicine dr, Psoriatic Spondylitis from a Rheumatologist, Temporal arteritis from an Opthalmologist, and RA from my functional medicine dr. 🤷The diagnosis isn't what is important. The CAUSES are what is important. Even more so, what you do about the causes is what ultimately makes the difference in your prognosis. Yours in better health P 😌🙏
I have them on all my fingers now. They started in my forties. I was told it was osteoarthritis bc it’s the nodes are on the distal joints near the finger tips. I was also told by the NP I mainly see that AS doesn’t cause this. Yet I had fluid show in the joints and I was placed on methotrexate which helped for years. The pain became so severe in two of my fingers I had to have joint replacements. (This is rare but I would do it again in a minute bc the pain is gone!) I was surprised to see the expert say AS doesn’t affect hands bc it certainly does, especially in women. Even areas where I have osteoarthritis the AS causes severe pain and inflammation. The thinking it only affects this joint or that is outdated; AS can occur virtually anywhere.
