Hello Pitac, hope you are doing well. I did have psoriasis. It has finally gone away after 5 months! My rheumatologist told me that’s what it was. I will look forward to my next dermatologist appointment to let them know😠 hugs

Hi Pitac
I actually got it a week before I started the Cimzia. I stopped the Cimzia last month because it did not help. I wondered about psoriasis. It hurts sometimes and burns. Seems to be spreading, ugh. Thank you for your answer.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Next time you see your dermatologist ask him to do a biopsy of one of the lesions to confirm if it is or is not psoriasis and what type. If it is, feel free to reach out to me how i got rid of it in further details. A biopsy is the only way to know for sure whether its an allergic reaction, a viral or bacterial infection, or autoimmune related. Yours in better health P 😌🙏

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Psoriasis is a common side affect some people develop while on biologics. Did the dermatologist do a biopsy? Have you had strep throat recently, or anyone around you had it? Thats how it all began for me. Strep, especially untreated, can lead to guttate psoriasis. It often begins on the chest like heat rash, gets a little scaly, then starts spreading down torso, to back, then legs and arms. Ugh. Tough to get rid of. Topical steroids werent much help either. I did get rid of it, twice. It's been trying to make a comeback lately. 😒

Question: What could be causing my red scaly rash with nr-axSpA, and should I tell my rheumatologist about it?

People with nr-axSpA can develop associated skin conditions, with psoriasis being one of the common comorbidities. While you've already taken the right step by seeing a dermatologist, it's important to inform your rheumatologist about this new symptom. Being open with your rheumatologist about any new symptoms, even if they seem unrelated to your back pain, is crucial. This information helps them understand your overall condition and may influence treatment decisions. They can also coordinate with your dermatologist to ensure you're receiving the most appropriate care for both conditions.
