Ankylosing Spondylitis with intermittent lower back pain, sometimes in a wheelchair. Constant neck pain. A couple bouts of uveitis. Walking daily helps, but I had 2 traumatic brain injuries last year which I’m still recovering from. Broke 7 bones in my face in May, in August I had a brain bleed and subdural hematoma. I’m currently in therapy for the double vision and balance problems cause by the first fall in May. Also losing my Coonhound on my birthday in December has affected my confidence… read more
I had to put my Lab down a couple years ago because he had cancer. He did wonders from me and I miss him dearly. Long story short I got me a lap dog. I have a pet stroller for her and we go everywhere!! Grocery shopping, running errands & etc. The stroller is a great help with balance. If ur not sure about whether or not you can bring ur dog in somewhere, just do it. The worst thing that can happen is someone will tell you to leave....and I've NEVER had that happen.
I’m looking at rescue groups for a small dog. I’ve always had big dogs except for the Puggle we have now. She’s my husband’s dog. They’re inseparable. 💙
We plan to move 600 mile by the end of April. I’ll wait til we move to get another dog. It’s hard to wait, but will be best for a new little pup.
Here’s Emmylou with Charlie. I miss Charlie SO much! I’d love to see pictures of your little dog!
@A MySpondylitisTeam Member, a therapy mini horse never occurred to me! Now I’m curious. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for the idea!
@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Consider a therapy mini horse, They live longer than dogs and can pull you up straight, see better than a seeing eye dog, fetch things and have lateral peripheral vision that a dog does not have and will refuse command if they notice danger that you do not. They can bear more weight than a 75 pound dog although not total weight. So you wouldn’t have to retrain a therapy horse after loss often since dogs live 10 to 15 and a horse lives 20 or more. But check your state laws for disability qualifications in your state if want one. I’m sure your dog was a great soul mate and help and a huge loss. Some dogs can be so special. When single I had a sweet special fearless protection dog that went with me everywhere. His mom was half pit/Rottweiler and dad was a Merle blue heeler with brindled head and tan points and patch over one eye. Cute as a button and smart and calculating. Was very intune with me.
Me too, Denise. This has been a rough winter and spring hasn't helped either.
The wet and cold has always been a problem since my mid-30's. I didn't find out until I was 68 that I had dextroscoliosis, which was a surprise.
My condolences for the loss of your confound. It's like losing a family member.
I have none of some of your problems and am so sorry you are going through brain bleeds and so many broken bones. Go bless your heart.
