Spondylitis is an autoimmune disease. The body's effort to heal itself results in bone spurs. I have lots of them on my spine, & they fuse with adjacent spurs. I regret to say it is inherent in Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS).
As EdMurphy said, the spurs grow back after surgery to remove them.
This disease SUCKS POND SKUM! It is painful and debilitating depending on how advanced it is. My rheumatologist did not want to order a CT scan of my whole spine. I called my insurance provider and got it approved - then the Dr ordered it.
I believe my health is my responsibility & I believed a baseline CT was needed to tell if treatment meds are working. Without a baseline, how would I know the meds slow the progression? The insurance provider agreed.
I don't allow guessing - too much at stake. I adopted a saying years ago: "In God I trust. All others must show data." That data must me relevant, accurate, timely and indisputable.
I'm an old Hard-Ass when it comes to that!
Sounds like could be arthritis but should have them tell you if it’s bone growth due to arthritis or a tumor
Awesome!!! I couldn't have said it better!
My right clavicle spontaniously dislocated and fused to my sternum. Large bump of bone where it is fused.
Right clavicle surgery twice. Told bonespurs but a year later it grew back about 1 inch longer and then went back in and cut 2 inches off. Good luck.
