Mouth Pain
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Good day,
My gums are very inflamed and feel raw. My cheeks feel raw as well. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what has helped? Thank you from Maryland

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. I get my andrographis/curcumin blend from Life Extension.com. It's called Arthro-Immune. Garden of Life also has one but it's tough to find in stock. I get my Omega-3, Fucoxanthin, Astaxanthin blend from Garden of Life.com. Its called Beyond OMEGA-3. These two have really made a difference for me. I also use Senolytic Activator from Life Extension.com because that is the cell body clean up crew, so to speak. It has flavonols that reportedly (National Institute of Health.gov) help the body rid itself of dying diseased cells. To aid that clean up process, I exercise (gently and carefully) 5 days a week to help boost metabolism which, I reason, also helps clean out unwanted bad cells. Because Psoriatic Spondylitis has destruction of soft tissue tendons, ligaments and cartilage, my personal rationale is that all that's left is muscle tissue to provide structural support. I was losing strength to open just a water bottle, so I started taking HMB (Hydroxymethylbutyrate) last summer to preserve muscle integrity. This is a natural byproduct from your body that helps prevent muscle wasting and breakdown. I do feel stronger, and it has not caused weight gain or bulking up like a body builder. I get that from Nutricost.com. I also find a good probiotic enormously helpful. There has been an increased medical science focus in the last decade on the importance of the gut microbiome and how it impacts every other aspect of health. I have not yet written a summary on that topic on my homepage but plan to soon. I like the Garden of Life products for that one. I've tried a few. My favorite one is their Mood blend because I have Generalized Anxiety and am prone to Depression, a common comorbidity with PsA. Interestingly, cytokines responsible for PsA, maybe the others as well, have also been found in the gut and brain of patients. Makes sense, what we eat, and don't eat, fuels the body and brain. A good well rounded multivitamin is very beneficial as well, I'm undecided on which I personally like the best. I've been taking GNC for active women for decades. Its fine and helpful, but I think there are better ones out there. Garcen of Life has a good one mixed with probiotics, but I only recently started trying it and can't really decide yet either way on that one. Lastly, a good protein powder to shore up daily diet is enormously helpful for energy. I like both Garden of Life bovine unflavored as well as Vital Proteins bovine unflavored to add to coffee and smoothies. Protein amino acids are vital to cell health. Cheers to your better health Lisa!😊🙏

Hi, thank you for the info, I take 1 Flintstones complete multivitamin daily. The chewable, my mother swore by it when she was with us, they are absorbed in your system much faster than pills.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. A combination of figuring out what triggers your inflammation to know what to avoid, cleaning out existing diseased cells from your body, and giving your body the nutrients it needs along with strong antioxidant supplements can't hurt near as much as side affects from medications. Let me know if you want to know where I order my supplements from. With the progress I've made, I'm a converted believer where I was once a nay-sayer eye roller. Really. See my post for today on my progress report. BTW, my Rheumatologist is on board and supports my changes with enthusiasm. She almost seemed relieved when I talked to her about nutrition. It seems like they're afraid or weary to talk to their patients about it.

Next up for me is talking to my Orthopedic Surgeon about whether I may be a good candidate for stem cell transplant therapy, not to be confused with umbilical stem cells, this is your own body's healthy cells cultured to replace damaged tissues in the knees and spine, maybe hips too.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. I tried 5 biologics. Every one of them either did nothing or caused worsening and/or new symptoms. Now I'm not on any meds at all and my pain and fatiguenhave dropped from a regular 7/8 tona 2-4 on an average day. I found a couple of antioxidants, most notably andrographis extract and fucoxanthin, that block most of the same cytokines that biologics target while at the same time increasing the immune system's ability to fight viruses, bacteria, and cancers, among many other benefits.

Biologics cause a lot of people a wide variety of problems as undesirable or worse than the disease. You're not alone. I think they're just modern medicine's way of giving patients hope instead of telling patients how to clean up their diet and move more. Patients in the western world don't like hearing that. Doctors lose business telling their patients what they need to hear instead of what they want to hear.😌🙏
