What Aspects Of Spondylitis Are You Grateful For And Worried About Lately?
I have had a lifetime of dealing with AS first with my mom and then with myself for 25 years now. I understand fully the pain, the loneliness and isolation, the frustrations from not getting answers or understanding, the sadness at abilities being pulled away...
That said, believe it or not I also have gratitude for what AS has brought me in my life. It has helped me be more compassionate and understanding of others, especially my mother. It has helped my own children grow to be compassionate and empathetic. It has forced me to put my health first and to listen to my body. In many ways i am healthier than some people i know who have never stopped to care for their bodies...It has made me think outside the box and discover new ways of healing and being. It has given me the words to write in poetry and the strength to share those words with others. And it has given me friends through this site who understand me deeply and profoundly. For these things I am grateful.
Get a super sweet cane. I am talking Lord of the Rings, mountain climber, walking stick, cane with a chair, etc. I am sure there is a pretty cool cane out there for you. I will probably have one as well so that is my advice. Some people like to bejewel everything so there's an option. A cane with a horn!!! YES!
Grateful and thankful everyday that I am here and I can manage this with the help of my doctor and exercise. Knowing what I am up against has encouraged me to exercise and move more! Movement does wonders for this disease! I am grateful that this is not terminal and I refuse to let it get the best of me! I encourage everyone to give thanks for your bodies and to listen to what they are telling you. Lack of movement is the enemy here, keep your beautiful bodies going and count your blessings! They by far outweigh the negatives!
Happy Thanksgiving and much love to all of you!
You've got to be kidding. Who could be grateful for something that's ruining our lives. I'm lucky I can function half the time. Now it's moved to my hands. I have finger pain so bad I have a hard time using them. Grateful, geez.
