Correct diet, lot's of fresh fruit and vegetables. Watch what you eat. Fish dishes are the best. No red meat

Go to Facebook and join the group Low Starch No Starch for Ankylosing Spondylitis. There you will see the Keystone Diet. Or you can google Key Stone diet for AS. Start in the 3rd tier. Best treatment. 2nd-surgery for AS ? No suck thing. AS is inflammation so no surgery will help unless you have damage done from the inflammation. And if that’s the case it would all depend on what the damage is. Exercise (cardio, stretching, weight training, etc) is all essential.

In the 40+ years wrestling with AS, I have never heard of, much less been offered, surgery as treatment. The current treatment progression these days seems to be: daily exercise (e.g. water aerobics) forever, anti-inflammatory diet, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Naproxyn, disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) like Sulfasalazine, and finally, a rainbow of so-called "biologics" like Remicade. [if I've missed anything in this list, please do add them]

There are many novel biologics with lots of different targets under research right now and I expect there will be a steady drip of them coming online of the years ahead.
