Humira is a biologic, not a direct pain reliever or muscle relaxer. It acts on TNF-a specifically, a cytokine molecule in blood that has the potential to cause excess inflammation (an "-itis" condition). Humira blocks activity of that one cytokine only. If that is not your problem it won't help you and could cause a new or worsening condition in addition to weakening your immune system. It is detectable only by a specialized blood test not part of standard Rheumatological workup and quite expensive because it's highly technical and only available at teaching or research hospitals. Or so I have recently learned through months of research. I've been "tried" on 5 biologics in the past 3 months and have experienced all the above mentioned side affects. Good luck to you. I hope you find an easier way to deal with your pain. If you do, please share it with all of us. So far I have only found a drastic change in lifestyle and diet to be affective at all. I could use a break with an injectable. So far that experiment has made me worse. Its been a full time job for me. Through physical and rehabilitative therapies, nutrition, multiple non medicated/surgical therapies, i have reversed osteoporosis to osteopenia, solved IBD, regained energy, improved walking distance, improved loss of voice due to chostochondroitis and stenosis at C6, and self healed a herniated L3. My mom is 81 with RA and AS, fibromyalgia and a long list but she still walks on her own, goes out to eat, light yard and housework herself. No meds. Lifestyle only. My mom in law just has Osteoarthritis, multiple orthopedic surgeries, pain relievers, injections, and less mobile every time I see her, barely staggering around on her walker. Kind of makes you wander if the drs are really helping or are they hurting us with all their "practising".๐ค๐คจ Good luck to you. Dont give up looking for answers to help.๐๐
