I also follow Yoga of AS and it helps me. I also love yoga with Adriane on youtube. The gentle flow and the sessions that focus on back are great. I do modifications so I don't push to hard. I also checked out a book at the library called "Pain Science Yoga Life" by Niamh Moloney and Marnie Hartman. It has helped me understand the pain cycle and how to use Yoga to help. It is a great book because it discusses the neuroscience behind pain and outlines Yoga philosophy. 🧘‍♀️ Namaste

Yoga for AS is the program I found and use. I can get through these sessions on even bad days because all the poses are modified for people with Axial Spondyloarthritis. They also share tips on Instagram which are helpful and they have full length sessions on youtube. https://yogaforas.com/

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member I also like there are tools to help you with modifying the positions to your abilities. The instructors I have seen or followed with yoga also may be incredibly flexible and do crazy movements but stews the fact that you must only do as much as you and your body can and do not over stretch or overdue it. The use of yoga is slow non resistant stretches that help increase flexibility, movement of joints and range of motion. It is also therapeutic in weight loss as well because it is an exercise as well. Find a routine for you that you enjoy and only do as much as you can meaning don’t try to bend in half if you can’t but bend til you can. I like that, that is helpful and part of how yoga works. Do what you can as you can. Usually you do improve the flexibility over time and are able through that time making the poses easier to follow and complete. I do love YouTube for following along with yoga. The hard part I have using visual demonstrations and instructions is trying to watch what they do and complete the pose at the same time as my head is not always aimed at the television. They do speak instructions, some instructors more than others but it can get confusing without the visual as a novice like I am.

You tube has different skill level instructional videos on yoga in class format. They always stress to only extend and stretch within the poses to your personal capability. With yoga there are assistive tools you can use as well. In my area their are usually free outdoor lot yoga sessions/classes open for all. Some community centers charge very little in in classes instructions as well. I haven’t been able to grasp yoga fully yet but stretching through the day does seem to help. I created my own stretching techniques based on what relieves tension and pain for me personally.
