It started in the New Year.. and has just been steadily worsening .: I have increased erosion in both hips, and my SI joints and stenosis in my lower spine.. would that cause the buttocks pain ?

Many community members responded to the question about deep buttocks pain, overwhelmingly confirming that sciatic nerve inflammation and SI joint flares are very common culprits, especially with conditions like AS. Several members shared helpful strategies including stretching, glute-strengthening exercises, heating pads used carefully to avoid burns, pressure point injections, epidural injections, and medications like Celebrex and Diclofenac. A recurring theme was emotional solidarity, with members reassuring one another that they are not alone, and expressing hope around upcoming rheumatology appointments and potential injection treatments.

I have had that pain..miserable! My doctor said it was the sciatic nerve that could be getting pinched. Lots of stretching and, for me, heat. It took a long time to ease up.
Hugs for you, Wanda

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member, same for me, it winds up being my sciatica nerve being inflamed. I've had it so bad that I couldn't have anything touching my back or bottom without having massive pain.

Yes. I have pain deep in lower buttocks almost daily. It’s another side effect of AS. It hurts. I sit on heating pad to help. I take prescription pain medication which helps. I don’t think I’d be able to survive the pain without pain meds.
