What Tens Unit Do You Use?
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question đź’

Daily, I use the ireliev tens wired system to help manage lower back pain. At one point I tried the ireliev wireless system, but the power pod sits in the center of my spine. Not an issue when upright or walking, but sitting, driving or sleeping it’s a no go. That being said, I am finding the wired system is not strong. What brand do you use, do you find it effective?

Thank you for the response. Sorry the TENS didn’t work for you. They are a true help to me, grateful that I have one. It usually takes two 60 minutes sessions to “scramble” my pain center when it’s bad. I am hoping for recommendations on what folks are using now. It’s a new ballgame now that they are available without prescriptions. Good luck on managing your AS, it’s not easy that’s for sure.

I had one of the original Rx only TENS units some 35+ years ago after having had half my C-spine surgically fused in 2 surgeries 6 mos. apart & after. fearing I'd blown another disc was DX'd by MRI that my pain was due to A.S. that is now in multiple places in my spine.

Turned out my insurance said they were still considered "experimental" & I ended up paying $2,400 for it!

It didn't do much but irritate me with crawly ants on the lowest setting or blinding painful JOLTS if / when one corner of the patches lifted or the messy conduction gel dried out ...

There really were no instructions for how or WHERE to properly place the wired patches, or use the setting of intensity or wave type of pulses... So that was a very expensive waste of money for me - despite their having been touted as miraculous pain control - even being used for women DURING C- Sections in the UK!!! Good GOD how barbaric - that would NEVER have worked for meee!!!

Anyway all it's scant directions warned - was NOT to use the TENS patches across both sides of your HEAD - I suppose so you didn't inadvertently give yourself a mental shock treatment!?

I can only hope they've been made safer & more effective now - but I wont be trying them again since they only provided another uncomfortable "distraction" - but no pain relief.
