Chest Pain With Spondylitis?
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have occasional severe chest pain across the middle of my chest. a couple years ago I talked to my primary care physician about it and he had no clue. Chest xray, EKG, etc showed NO CARDIAC PROBLEMS. Next time I see him I'll tell him of chest pain with spondylitis. Good to know! It had scared me.

It sounds like costochondritis I’ve had episodes of it with several attacks daily. Yes you are right it’s such an intense pain and with me plantar fasciitis also seems worse at the same time. If it’s any consolation in my case it has gone away well at least for now. Before AS diagnosis doctor passed it off as chest cramp??

I went to the ED two weeks ago to get evaluated for severe chest pain. I'd never felt anything like it. They ruled out heart attack and blood clot in the lung. When they reviewed my AS diagnosis, mentioned costochondritis and to follow up with my Rheumatologist. They confirmed it was in fact costochondritis. I took aleve for about a week until the pain passed.

Sounds like Costochondritis, first time I had it I thought was having a heart attack. Definitely mention it to your doc, everyone I know with AS has had an episode at least once. ❤️

That is so true. Chestpain is a common symptom of AS, that gets worse when you take a deep breath, sneeze, cough, exercise or put your chest in certain positions. These are signs of chest inflammation. It is scary when you are experiencing it for the first time. Wishing you a good day and take care 🍀

I’ve been to ER with severe chest pain. They determine it is chondrocondritis related to the AS. I’ve been told to never underestimate or ignore severe chest pain due to AS’s link to heart problems.
