Contact Lens Discomfort

Hello again, I am wondering if anyone else out there with spondylitis has had trouble with wearing contacts? I have been unable to wear them for about 5 years now, and have tried every brand. As a follow-up, if eye inflammation made contact-wearing painful for you, did a biological treatment allow you to wear them again? Thanks!

Several members shared that they had to stop wearing contacts entirely due to the sensation of sand in their eyes, swollen or watering eyes, and changes in eye shape from inflammation, with some finding relief through prednisone, antihistamine drops, or simply switching to glasses full-time. A recurring theme was the unpredictable nature of AS-related eye flares and the challenge of explaining sudden, painful symptoms to others who don't understand autoimmune disease.

I just went through an attack of scleritis and the dr put me on prednisone and antihistamine drops. My eyes do not feel like they have sand in them any more.😁 Dry eye and eye irritation goes with AS unfortunately. I do not use contacts and do not think I could. good luck

Hmmm when I was in high school I wore them.Two yrs ago I tried again.I couldn't stand them on my eyes anymore. Didn't think it was from Spondy but it could be the case

I have never been able to tolerate them due to not enough tear production they initially said. Later I was diagnosed with Sjourn Syndrome and now I have the dreaded uveitis. It’s all related to AS. I’m praying when I start a biologic this eye pain and vision trouble will stop. Good lunch to you as well☺️

The best was when I went to work the next day & they were still swollen but not as bad. The secretary told me it must be an allergic reaction to something. And I was like yes I am literally allergic to myself lol now you get it!
