Electric Stimulator

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Daytona Beach, FL

Has anyone had an electric stimulator put into your spine & does it help? I have spondylosis, osteoarthritis & degenerative disc disease. My doctors want me to get this due to damaged nerve pain. Thank you.

Members shared mixed but largely supportive experiences with spinal cord stimulators for chronic back and nerve pain, with several describing significant relief that kept them out of the emergency room and improved their daily quality of life, though some noted side effects like itchiness at higher settings or feeling spacey from related medications. Several members offered practical guidance, including the importance of completing the trial period to determine effectiveness, managing medication combinations like gabapentin and Lyrica carefully, and considering alternative options such as nerve blocks or TENS units before committing to the more invasive permanent implant. A recurring theme was the fear and uncertainty around the procedure itself, particularly concerns about pain during insertion, the risk of complications like paralysis, and whether the potential benefits outweighed the risks, with many members emphasizing the need to weigh personal pain levels, listen to your body, and follow medical guidance closely if choosing to proceed.
