I take methadone for pain....after trying just about every painkiller out there. Can't remember 2 years of my life from all the drugs. Hub's says I don't want to know how bad those years were.
Methadone is long acting and ONLY painkiller I've tried that doesn't give me that drugged out feeling and sleep my life away. Many many years ago it was strictly used for pain control....then the drug culture came on the scene and they found it usefull weening people off drugs. It bothered me at first when the pharmacy techs would give me looks....I don't care anymore...it helps tremendously with controlling my pain and not robbing me of normal life.
Praying you find pain control without horrible side effects.

Hi there! I also tried methadone for my pain but I found myself falling asleep or nodding as it's called, around 3 pm. That was my biggest complaint about it. Now I am on dilauded. It seems to be working ok. I need a pain med that has " hydro" as a prefex. It seems to work better with me as opposed to the oxi prefex. Like oxciconton (sp) or oxicodone. So now we are trying to find a long acting hydro something. Hope you have good days ahead.

I didn't like the side effects from gabapentin either, made me feel worse not better, such bad cramps in my muscles that I couldn't walk and I kept forgetting words, thought I had dementia it was so bad, but it all cleared up when I stopped taking it, was only on a very low dose 100 - 200mg daily.

There is a huge prejudice with methadone unfortunately, I have a friend who works with addiction, all drug use is lumped together and people think that it's about getting high and partying, that may be true of some drugs but not opiates, a lot of people who use them do so because of emotional distress, opiates are an emotional and physical pain killer and anyone who has lived through any sort of mental pain knows how awful it is. Forget the prejudice and hold your head high, you have found a medication that helps you and gives you some quality of life, no one has any right to judge you they don't have your pain, if it really bothers you find a good pharmacy away from the immediate area that you live but which you can get to easily.

I get nerve blocks every three months. The first time is every other week for 6 weeks, than after 6 months can get one and then 3 months later get one and so on.
It did relieve the pain from the neuropathy but not the other pain problems in my back.
I take a Soma muscle relaxer and Tramadol narcotic for that pain.
Tried Gabapentin, didn’t like the side effects!
