Members connected over the puzzling symptom of persistent coughing without a cold or bacterial infection, with many describing productive morning coughs that clear once phlegm is expelled. Several members shared potential causes including ankylosing spondylitis-related lung inflammation, emphysema from past smoking, allergies, and nerve or tissue irritation from stretching or overdoing physical activity. A recurring theme was frustration with doctors who couldn't provide clear answers despite tests showing lungs sounding clear, leaving members to wonder whether their chronic cough was related to their condition, environmental triggers, or something else entirely.

I’ve had one for the past 2 years, mostly in the mornings after I get up and have my coffee.
Once the the phlegms up the cough is done.
Saw the Dr.’s several times, they always said I sounded clear!
Had an ex ray, clear!
I am an ex smoker,
Quit 13 years ago.
End of last year I requested to have one of the new CT Scans done to ck ex/current smokers for lung cancer, very thankfully no cancer 🙏🏻!
But it did show slight emphizema.
Said Nothing needed to be done immediately, but to follow up yearly with CT scan to monitor it. Don’t know if that’s the cause, allergies ???
It seems they can’t give a direct answer🤔
