Members shared mixed experiences about whether amitriptyline causes weight gain, with some reporting significant weight increases (ranging from 40 to 150 pounds) while others experienced no change at all, and many noted that gabapentin also contributes to weight gain for some people. Several members offered practical strategies for managing medication-related weight gain, including monitoring calorie intake more carefully when less active due to pain, increasing daily walking and movement even when difficult, incorporating chair exercises, and tracking weight regularly to stay accountable. A recurring theme was the difficult trade-off between finding pain relief and managing side effects, with many members emphasizing that each person responds differently to medications and that the decision to take amitriptyline depends on weighing potential benefits against personal concerns about weight gain and morning stiffness.

Wendy Mary Rees, why are you cutting down on the meds if they work for you, is it because of any bad side effects? I have stopped meds when the side effects were worse than the pain they were supposed to help with.

Well that might be an answer. I guess overdosing a patient with 500mcg/ml only 20cc's in about 5 seconds then closes her office for three months not to mention everything else aThat is f'd up . This kind of treatment towards anyone let alone a real live human being is just wrong . All wrong and then all the doctors want to not e even give that long time disease and pain patient not to mention the how many surgeries..... if that patient wasn't in so much pain most of the time she might feel a little bit better and function better. It's not about caring, loving, ect . More about how much pain affects people and especially how that much fentanyl can really mess with a person. I would rather die in less pain and worry about what someone labels me. Thank you you know where you can find and talk to "that patient" if you want. As far as threatening no one is doing that but I can get sideways real quick. Gee have a thought as to why. You know why so let's not blame it on irrelevant things. Since that patient is telling the truth maybe someone ought to listen and know the real story then pt a real live human being behind all that messed up crap. Ridiculous and not necessary. No 9ne deserves it less than me then us.....

I am now keeping my weight at 150, and monitor it much closer. It affects everyone a lil bit different...

Mary is Morphin an opiate medication? If so and you have been on it for a while make sure the doctor reduces it slowly and doesn't just stop it, it may do nothing for your arthritis but you will feel really poorly if they just stop an opiate medication, they have to be reduced a little at a time. The doctor did this to a friend of mine who had a brain tumour, she was really ill because they didn't take her off it slowly.
