That is wonderful that she bakes you those lovely treats. I have stayed away from gluten for the last year and a half. That is interesting to know that you can neutralize the lectins by leavening the… read more
Hi
I’m new here but trying to understand this whole AS. I was recently diagnosed and my rheumatologist wants me to go on a biologic . I’m 39 and just nervous if the side effects especially bc it is along the lines of an immunosuppressant. I was moving towards the holistic approach with diet instead . Has anyone done that and had success?
I def will . I still haven’t jumped on th biologic bandwagon yet . Right now I’m doing massages every 3 weeks and stretching . Trying to keep up with wheat grass shots and turmeric supplements. For… read more
I also have facet arthritis/bone spurs/nerve pain/cervical and lumber spondylosis/ sacroiliac pain all for which I am having nerve blocks or steroid injections. Diagnosed last year with Psoriatic arthritis and lupus. At this time I have been in pain over 30 years. Started in my 30’s now 60 and getting worse.
A good doctor should be able to see it with a regular x-ray if there is fusion. Or a MRI allows to assess the soft tissue and bone marrow involvement in case of inflammation.
I am going for a CT of the chest on Monday, I have what appears to be bone growth on my ribs according to ultrasound.
I also have shortness of breath on occasion.
My doctors thought it was anxiety, but I know it’s not. It comes randomly at rest mostly, or sometimes after coffee.
It feels like my rib cage is too tight around my lungs.
No!
It sounds like fidgeting but it’s different. It’s from pain and not being able to stand or sit for any period of time. Stretching out my back, shoulders, ankles, hips. It’s most annoying when I’m trying to sit and have a conversation with family or friends. The itching and scratching from the Psoriasis must be a bonus for my audience 😭
Does anyone have a regular need to stretch and move (up down up down) throughout their day ?
Hi KatJSassaman. God gave us reason. Pain is the body's warning that it is sick. The body is asking for help. It manifests itself in pain! We ignore the body. He gets NSAId instead of help. But that's… read more
I’ve been getting UTIs every month for almost a year. When I was younger I could work with the occasional one. Now I get very sick 4-5 days before getting the typical symptoms of burning, etc. At my age of 64 there’s a very real chance of getting septic from these. Anyway, I’m going to take a break from biologics and methotrexate for about 6 months. Seeing rheumatologist in 2 weeks to discuss it with him and I know he won’t like it. But I have to think about my body as a whole, not just AS. Any… read more

I have read many articles that suggest physical therapy as a component of an AS treatment plan.
My doctors have never suggested PT. I was an avid golfer in my past life. When I ask about returning to golf, in the future they do not respond. Granted, that currently I lack the energy and the ability to to retrieve my golf ball from the hole but when ask what my goals are, one is to play golf again.
Would PT help?
Yes. I recieve treatment from a specialized physical therapist in AS and i find it so helful and relevant. My goal is to walk painfree for at least 30 minutes so i have a plan designed by my physical… read more
