Vaccines While On Biologics?
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

My doctor wants me to get the shingles and pneumonia vaccines. Technically I’m not at that age yet, but due to the biologics they said I now qualify. Has anyone taken them while on biologics? Did you do ok with them, and how long after your infusion did you wait before getting them? If you had both at the same time, any downside to that? Sorry so many questions!

I got mine before starting biologics, but if your doctor says it’s okay, you should do it 2 weeks after your infusion or whenever it is recommended if you get injections. I have known a few people with shingles, and it is a whole bunch of hurt tied up in a pickly package that you can’t let go of for months. Igot mine separately even though they said I could do them together. That being said, I did fine on those vaccines. The covid vaccines almost did me in though. If you haven’t gotten your shingles and pneumonia and you are taking biologics, it is really a good idea to do that as quickly as you can. Good luck!

I have had all the covid boosters and shingle and pneumonia shots, this year andviwant to tell you i had only a sore arm for side effects and the thing I got was a cold with very bad cough and a lot of mucus . I honestly think it was the upper rrespiratory cold thing that is hitting a lot of people
Hope this helps

Yes absolutely should get them both.. and flu shot. Never get flu mist bc that is Live Virus and can cause very bad harm to you if on infusion and any biologic really. You can get these injections with your rheumatologist well at least we offer them to our patients at the rheumatologist I work with also u also have paclovid and evushell for those COVID and Viral infections. Well we offer them at our rheumatologist office.
