I have a spondylitis condition (sacroiliitis) and Crohn's. The Crohn's is in remission; one of my sacroiliac joints has been fused for many years and the other one is partially fused. I'm not experiencing any pain in my spine in several years. Several doctors have recommended a biologic to stop disease progression; my previous Rheumatologist who recently retired said my current medication (Sulphasalazine) seems to be helping my spondylitis.

I honestly would be okay with taking both. I take sulfasalazine and humira. Once disease progresses, there is no going back.

Steve, I would be curious to know what you decided. I am in a similar situation (sacroilitis / IBD associated arthritis plus UC). Considering whether to go on Cimzia. I'm reluctant as my UC is well controlled with a low impact medication, and starting on a biologic sound like a big commitment with potential side effects.

My x-rays were normal except for degeneration. I just had an MRI done that showed chronic inflammatory changes. Are you going to get an MRI done in the future? They are the most sensitive. Although more costly too.

I had some recent X-rays done and it did not show any disease progression in the past several years, although I'm told that X-rays don't always easily show disease progression or inflammation.
