Chest Spasms
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Not sure if that’s the right term but I know people have said they get chest pain but I’ve been getting spasms. It’s similar to a foot cramp but in my chest (no heart problems)
I’m without health insurance at the moment so going to the doc is not an option
Thank You

I have spasms often in several different places on the body. The rib case is the worst. My old pain doctor told me it is our tissues screaming for 2-3 things . he said to always keep a bottle of room temp water by me, and start with that at first sign of the spasm and to drink it all if possible .. our tissues often need water even more if like me ( coffee/caffience depletes water in system fast ) we drink a lot of coffee / tea with caffeine. next to try is and even if you don't like this, it works so well is worth it, but drink 2 oz of dill pickle juice. IT DOES WORK almost immediatley after going down. I notice if i take potassium every other day and magnesium on alternate days as well as the water on reg basis, the spasams aare far and few between now. Just have to pass it. but bone pain will most often be a vit D issue especially if you have had any bone removed ( hip, knee, spine ) and foreighn stuff put in as our body tries to rebuild the missing bone... tissues send spasams when missing hydration ( water ), or potassium/magnesium which is required for proper tissue function. I had a great pain doctor who taught me a whole lot about my body and actual works. And I went to school to learn about patient care and such. hope this helps as i know how spasms can control us especially while sleeping.

I find having a hot bath helps with my rib and chest pains. I also about to take Curcumin tablets high strength and I take glucosamine too. Only just started so will let you know. Trying to naturally lower the inflammation levels and I've heard Curcumin is very good for that.

I get it on my right side and it is VERY painful! I just try to "stretch" it out the best I can

I get them in the rib area , all the way around. It is the intercostal muscles ( muscles between each rib) that are the cause.
I have been taking CoQ10 Ubiquinol (a supplement), and magnesium for these and feet and leg spasms. It has helped greatly.
There are other forms of CoQ 10 but the Ubiquinol is more readily absorbed.
It can be found at all major drug stores and they all have promotions for buy one get one free or 1/2 off from time to time. You should check with your doctor when starting any new meds or supplements.
Good luck with this issue. I know how painful it is!

So far, all I’ve done is stretch...or get up and stand or walk...depending on where they are
