Sometimes a collar can irritate it. Iv been diagnosed with another condition as well as CS. I'm having injections again next month
Try a wrap that you put in microwave, it works well for me

In Scotland a collar is not recommended now as it actually stops any movement and you stiffen up more ?

A neck collar is now not recommended but Nhs Scotland it restricts movement further and causes stiffness leading to a further decrease in mobility of neck see your go for further information 👍

I used to be given a collar when first diagnosed which I though really helped if I slept in it. Then the reasoning was no collar . I’ve even tried to buy one but they are not available anywhere

I use a foam collar when travelling as the bumps hurt like hell and I have in the past passed out while leaving the vehicle. I asked about collars when first saw the specialist but they are not recommended unless the condition is seriously severe and then would be a rigid collar and brace. The reason they are no longer recommended for general use is that they weaken the muscles and inhibit natural movement which can aggravate the condition making it harder to determine how the condition is behaving. Would not recommend sleeping in one unless advised by a medical practitioner and fitted correctly. The only other time I wear my collar is if my neck is hurting so badly that I feel I can't hold my head up with out support....even then it's usually only for a couple of hours. Heat rubs, patches or hot water bottle help relax the muscles which I find stiffen when the discs seize up causing me more pain......Joint mobility exercises might help , there are loads on the internet, I was advised not to push past the point where it starts to feel sticky as it will cause the body to react as if it is an injury and the muscles will stiffen up to protect the area leading to more pain and discomfort. if you are finding the pain has significantly increased and there are other issues including altered grip and mobility, then I would suggest seeking further medical assistance as it may be your condition has deteriorated. I am hoping it is more to do with cold weather. xxx Let us know how you get on.
