Does Anyone With SI Joint Involvement Get Flares In Hip To The Point They Can't Walk Or Put Pressure On Effected Hip/leg/buttocks??
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had a PT appointment yesterday. He was very good!! But, I am still not convinced this is not a part of AS and I am curious if a biologic will help me get moving again. He said it seems there is a tendon / and possibly piriformis muscle that is causing me problems. I always feel it slightly, like level 1-2 pain, but then sometimes it starts aching and will be level 4 for and get worse and then it will get to a point I can't put pressure on hip/leg and it is so weak. When it gets to that pint, I… read more

I had eight weeks of Rituxin - a biologic, I believe, for cancer. It was effective at removing the cancer - a small spot, but it did nothing for my AS. My oncologist was surprised. Also - it cost $800 per infusion. Thankfully my insurance covered it.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member I'm sorry it didn't help your pain. I really wish there was a cure for this!

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member I am sorry that the biologic didn't help with your AS, but glad it did help remove the cancer. Do you have SI involvement and when get flares lose the ability to walk on that side? The rheumatologist was either going to put me on Humira or Cosentyx if NSAIDs didn't help relieve the pain, my problem is more the flare-ups and the highest dose of NSAIDs do not even touch the pain. My rheumatologist thinks it is a different issue, which is what I am trying to find out is if anyone with SI involvement loses the ability to put pressure on affected hip/leg during a flare.

Walking can be OK for short distances, but hip pain is limiting.

Yes! I explained to my PT, that when it gets bad, it feels like I am being stabbed in my butt and then it is almost like sciatic pain on top of that, but not quite the same area as sciatica. I am so sorry you have to constantly use something to help your mobility, but your answer helps give me some clarity that my research may be on point and heading in the right direction. Flare-ups are awful!
