HLAB27 Positive But Not Inflammation Markers??
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Question...I saw this asked 2 years ago by someone but didn't see many answers. My inflammation markers are negative and HLAB27 is +. I have (in 4 years) developed severe joint facet arthropathy in my lumbar spine and also have SI degeneration. I know this has all happened in 4 years because in 2018 my MRI lumbar was as close to normal as you can get. I have severe stiffness in lower back, following 3 and a half decades of hyper mobility. I have had 2 cervical discetomies as well. I'm having SI… read more

Does A Sed Rate Test Overrule A Clinical Diagnosis?
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis over 30 years ago by a rheumatologist. A few years after that a neurologist treating my seizures said my sed rate was within normal limits, so the AS diagnosis must have been wrong. So I've operated all these years as if I did not have a diagnosis.

Now I've had a bilateral lumbar laminectomy without fusion and a 3 level anterior cervical fusion with instrumentation for bony central and foraminal stenosis. Both surgeries removed excessive bone but… read more

Was Told I Have Spondyloarthritis, But What Does This Mean?
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone! New here and new to Spondyloarthritis diagnosis. I'm basically desperate to find people who can relate to me and this struggle
I saw a rheumatologist for the first time 2 days ago. I've been fighting LBP for 9 years (I'll update my profile story soon!). I wasn't given much information other than reading material about "Spondyloarthritis" to take home. I had bloodwork and xrays done after appt. I go over the results with him in 2 weeks while being put on prednisone in the… read more

Has Anyone Experienced A Wearing Off Effect Following Success With Medications?
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed with 'non radiographic' AS (although it's questionable about the NR b/c my doctor saw inflammation on the MRI, brought it to the attention of the radiologist who then agreed) and started with taking Piroxicam at night. Initially and for the first time in my life I woke up in the morning without pain. I then was prescribed Cimzea (the medication for NR AS). It's been close to a year and recently, I started having the same pain in the morning where it's difficult to straighten up… read more

Question Regarding Diagnosis
A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi — I am positive for the HLA B27 gene. I am 57 years old. In 2018 and then again in June 2023 I had episodes of widespread body pain that lasted 8 weeks each time. I had a burning pain up and down my spine. I also had arthritic pain in the thumb joints in the base of my thumbs and pain on my front hip bones. I also had tendon pain in my shoulders.

I have also had 2 episodes of plantar fasciitis in the past 2 years. I currently have stubborn plantar fasciitis and am using Volteran gel… read more
